Jenifer Bartoli: Star Academy's Superstar

Jenifer Bartoli was born November 15, 1982 in Nice, France to Michel Dadouche and Christine Bartoli. She also has a younger brother named Jonathan. At the tender age of fifteen she participated in the Graines de star television show, however this was not what catapulted her to success. Success finally arrived when Bartoli won the first series of Star Academy. In the following years her career as a musician prospered including going on tour with her new band, touring as a solo artist, and performing at the Paris Olympia. Bartoli claims her style of music and inspiration is found in the pop/rock genre, as seen in her top ten single "Des Mots Qui Resonnent".

Jenifer Bartoli's awards include Best French Artist at the 2004 MTV Europe Music Awards, and at the NRJ Music Awards: Best French Newcomer (2003), Best French Album (2005), and Best French Female Artist (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011).

What about your musician's sound do you like? How does the sound affect your mood? What does the sound remind you of?

I enjoy the calming sound of Jenifer Bartoli's song "Au Soleil". The repition in the chorus makes it quite catchy. She has a very feminine, serene voice, yet the background instruments create a flowing beat in the background. This beat keeps the listener intrigued. I feel calm and carefree listening to Bartoli's music, it does not conjure up any extreme emotions, but rather mellows out the listener. Her music reminds me of a mix between Sheryl Crow and Colbie Caillat.

What do other viewers say about the musician in the comments on YouTube?

The following comments come from the song "Le Souvenir De Ce Jour" meaning, The Memory of that Day.

"Merci a ceux qui mette des videos des concert de Jenifer car grace a eux je redecouvre peu a peu l'une des meilleures chanteuses! C'est une super chanson!"
meaning- Thank you to those who put videos of Jenifer's concert because thanks to them i gradually rediscovered one of the best singers! It's a great song!

"Magnifique cette chanson, elle met de bonne humeur et fait penser aux vacances."
meaning-Beautiful song, it puts in a good mood and is reminiscent of holidays.

Shy'm: French pop singer

Tamara Marthe, a pop singer in France who is known as Shy’m, was born on November 28, 1985. In America, she would be classified as another Lady Gaga or Beyoncé. The way that she dresses in her music videos is like Lady Gaga, but the way she looks and dances is similar to Beyoncé.

Shy’m started taking dance lessons at a young age. When she graduated, she began to send recordings of herself to recording studios. Rapper K’Maro discovered her potential, and she was on her way to fame. She was featured in his song Histoire de Luv, and from there, she began her journey to be a pop artist. How has your subject influenced French culture?

Shy'm is one of the many popular pop artists. Young teens and adults listen to her music and it had become part of the pop culture in France. She started out as a featured singer in K'Maro's song a slowly worked her way up to be one of the most well known singers in France. This shows all of her fans that you can start out as nothing, but if you work for something, it can be achieved.

What significance, if any, soes your subject have to the American culture?

Here in America, most people have not heard of Shy'm, but since she is similar to Lady Gaga and a couple of other artists she might start to become popular. If she were to do a world tour, she would have new fans all over the place.

What does your musician sing about?

Shy'm's songs are mostly about love, intermarriage, and success just as most songs are here. It seems to be an international theme to write about love and achievments.

What do other viewers say about the musician in the comments on youtube?

''Frankly she sings tro bien! It has its own style and not trying to copy the style of others! No back bay! However, pushpin, but how do you not like! (I'm talking about 60 people who do not like!) There are not capable of much! In addition she is super nice! What more!"

"She is beautiful Shym 'never change it and it still dazzle us <3"

"Je sais" -Shy'm

Verse 2 :
I know sometimes you're sick and tired of it and,,I know sometimes maybe I could spare you,I know you love me, you love me like this,But I know sometimes I really get on your nerves (Oh baby)
Chorus :
Hey Hey, what's the matter ?Go on, give a shout, but tell meWhy is it you want to kill me with your eyesAre you perhaps losing your head ?!Shout with all your body,I know I drive you crazy,But you look kinda great like this, hey, hey...
Couplet 3 :
But tell me, youSo big, so strong,This man that no one affects,This heart of stone,Those steel arms which lift me with just one hand,What's the matter ?Well what's the matter baby? What's the matter with you ?Well what's the matter ?
Chorus (x2) :
Hey Hey, what's the matter ?Go on, give a shout, but tell meWhy is it you want to kill me with your eyesAre you perhaps losing your head ?!Shout with all your body,I know I drive you crazy,But you look kinda great like this, hey, hey...

Daft Punk- Jaron Segal-Culture French Project 2

French Culture Project 2-Daft Punk

By Jaron Segal

Daft Punk is 2 french men named Guy-Manuel  de Homem Christo and Thomas Bangalter.  They have won 2 grammys and  their band was made in 1993 and is still producing new music. They play house music, commonly called techno, dance, etc. The 2 members met in middle school and they made a band called Darlin' it was a failure and broke up, but they stayed together. Originally they played the guitar and bass, but now they're on the turn tables.

I find it strange that their influences are rock bands like The Rolling Stones or The Beach Boys, because they are famous for their house music They got their name by a critic saying Darlin "was just another dart punk band" , hence their name Daft Punk.

One interesting fact is no one knows what they look like. They play with the masks on 24/7, and if they go out in public they wear the mask. This is because they do not want a big public image. They beleive its stupid.

Their recent work includes: many tours and concerts around the world, but their most recent best work is the Tron soundtrack. They starred in the movie at a scene and completely made the soundtrack with a composer 2 years prior to the premeire.

a. What about your musician's sound do you like? How does the sound affect your mood? What does the sound remind you of?
The sound is just like very very good dance music, it doesnt really change my mood. Its a very energetic sound, much like Deadmau5.

c. What does your musician sing about? *What are some of the major themes or subjects of the songs? If they do not sing, how can you interpret the music or sound?
Daft Punk's rythyms sound very energetic and just like that the 2 men are having a great time. It seems upbeat and dancy most of the time.

Shy'm: "Spicy Tam"

Shy'm: "Spicy Tam"
By: Jordanna Segal

Shy'm was born as Tamara Marthe in Trappes. Ever since she was young, she had a liking of singing and dancing. She took dancing lessons as a child, and she was nicknamed "Spicy Tam" because of the effort that she put into it. She earned her diploma at the age of seventeen. All throughout high school she was recording demos, but wanted to avoid the public eye.

Later when she went to Paris she sent the recordings to record companies. It was here that she was discovered by rapper, K'Maro. Tamara gained her stage name of "Shy'm" by her journey to fame. Shy'm is made from her being shy and Martinique. She was inspired by her loving of the arts. She is a mix of pop and R&B. Her solo album, which was released in 2006, was named Mes Fantaisies. The album reached number six on the French chart, and four songs from the album have been released as singles. All of the singles went on the top ten list in France. She has not received any awards.

                          En Aspesanteur

1. What about your musician's sound do you like? How does the sound affect your mood? What does the sounds remind you of?

I like that her music is mostly upbeat and her videos are funky. Even though I can't understand what she is singing about, there is a continuous beat that flows nicely together. Her songs make you feel more lively and make you want to get up and dance. Her music reminds me of Rihanna in a way. The sounds of a bass drum are clearly heard in "En Apesanteur."

2. What does your musician sing about? *What are some of the major themes of subjects of the songs? If they do not sing, how can you interpret the music or sound?

She sings about finding love and love that is recurring. She also sings about marriage between two different races. Her top three major themes of her songs are finding love, recurring love, and intermarriage along with its success. Her music is unique with its positive sound, yet her music is speaking about something negative. All in all I think her music sounds good and if I could understand it, I think I would like it.

Yelle:You enjoy life

My Blog post is about Yelle.
She is a french singer and was born in Bretagne in 1983.
Her real name is Julie Budet.
She is musically gifted since she was little.
Her father was also a singer so she learned it really early.
Her preference is electro music which she plays with Grand Manier.
She takes her inspiration from herself.
She talkes about enyoing your life ,so she just says what she's thinking about.
There is not really anything else about her.
Just enjoy your life

I like the beat of the song it's something new because of the language /other country .

She is not really popular in other countrys but she had a song witch was in top 20 for a long time.

They are just showing their power ,how you should go through your life.

It is really different some like it and some not but the most of the just write something stupid on it.
C'est quoi le pire ? La vidéo en elle même ou les 7635 personnes qui aiment ?

What is worse? The video itself or the people who love 7635?

Heureusement que c'est passé de mode...

Fortunately it's out of fashion...
